Unique Coastal Landforms

Sandstone rocks in northern Taiwan are easily eroded and weathered to become unique landscapes. For example, joints on the sandstone rocks are eroded and form distinctive patterns on the rocks and become fascinating features to visitors. Irregular limestone rocks in sandstone become resistant cementation and form candle rocks. The sedimentary coast of south-western Taiwan is changing rapidly due to variation in sediment inputs from rivers, along with marine and aeolian processes. Sandy beaches, sand bars, lagoons, wetlands and sand dunes are commonly found along south-western coast.
