International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples – 9th August
On August 9th we celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a very special day for Geoparks!
Indigenous peoples have a vital role in the preservation and celebration of their culture, their human rights, languages, ancient histories.
By involving indigenous communities, UNESCO Global Geoparks recognize the importance of these communities, their culture and the link between these communities and their land.
Last May the Global Geoparks Network Executive Board decided to celebrate on August 9th the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and asks all Geoparks to join the campaign, to share information their projects and activities and to promote across all social media platforms the important role of their indigenous peoples for our culture and our communities.
