As many other Geoparks in Taiwan, Lichi Geopark is mainly governed by the local communities with some supports from Forestry Bureau. The Lichi Badland Geopark has been proposed an area of about 2.261 km2 and assigned to be one of the Taiwan Geoparks Network launched from 2011. Because of its outstanding geoheritages in the geopark, such as badland gorge, exotic block hill, panoramic view platform, etc., and 4 trails equipped with panels, as well as 5 practical traveling routes have been explored through detailed surveys by a combination of Earth scientists, local people, and government institutions in the past years. Indoor and outdoor volunteer training courses, interpreter training courses, and geopark week activities were carried out successfully. Additionally, four kinds of geology- and landscape based geotourism programmes have been developed. These performed activities not only achieve the goal of landscape protection but also increase in the employment opportunities and income for the local people.
